What is Liposuction ?

Liposuction is a cosmetic surgical procedure designed to remove excess fat deposits from specific areas of the body. It helps contour and reshape the body by targeting stubborn fat that does not respond to diet and exercise. Liposuction is commonly performed on areas such as the abdomen, thighs, hips, arms, back, and neck.

How Does Liposuction Work ?

The procedure is usually performed under local or general anesthesia, depending on the treatment area and the amount of fat being removed. The process involves:

  • Small Incisions: Tiny incisions are made in the target area.
  • Insertion of a Cannula: A thin tube (cannula) is inserted to loosen and break down fat cells.
  • Fat Removal: A suction device or syringe is used to remove the fat, sculpting the body into a more defined shape.
  • Skin Retraction: If the skin has good elasticity, it will gradually tighten over the treated area. In cases of poor elasticity, additional skin tightening procedures may be needed.

Liposuction recovery day by day

After liposuction, you may need to stay in the hospital for one day. Therefore, having a companion with you is a good idea, as they can assist you. Additionally, since you will not be able to drive after surgery, someone should take you home.

  • 1–3 Days: A compression garment is placed over the treated area and is worn for about “10 days”. You should use it to reduce swelling, control fluid retention, and keep the body firm. In some rare cases, a “drain” may be used to prevent fluid and blood accumulation. Mild pain may occur in the first few days. Take the prescribed “painkillers” until the course is completed. Avoid unnecessary movements. Try to rest at home for “one week”.
  • 10–15 Days: Pain and discomfort will “almost disappear”. By the end of the “second week”, if you have a “desk job”, you can return to work as long as you do not lift heavy objects. During these days and while working, you should still wear the “compression garment”.
  • 4–5 Weeks: Pain will be completely gone. Most of the swelling will disappear. Your new shape will begin to show. If you exercise, you can start light workouts from the fourth week onward.
  • 6–12 Weeks: Swelling, fluid retention, and bruising should be completely gone (except in rare cases). You will no longer need to wear the compression garment. You can continue your life as it was before surgery. You will see the full results and notice the change in your body.

Additional Tips: Do not forget to eat regular and healthy meals. Try to drink plenty of water. Consume fresh fruits and vegetables. Bone broth is very beneficial—obtain it or prepare it at home. Light walking is always good. Try to make it part of your routine.

Process After Liposuction in Turkey

After the procedure, the corset is applied to the region from where the fat is removed. The duration of the corset usage will be between 3-5 weeks depending on the region from where the fat is removed. About 3 hours after you are taken to your room, you will start consuming liquid food. In this process, you will have pain similar to sports pain.

You will be hospitalized for one night. The next day, your physician will perform your controls and start the discharge procedures. Two days after your discharge, you will be back to the hospital for your last control.

Which Technique We Are Performing the Liposuction With

This may vary depending on the patient. We use classic liposuction or Vaser Liposuction. With the application we call laser liposuction, normal liposuction can be performed together. If the weight of our patient is excessive, classical liposuction may be preferred. Laser liposuction may be preferred for patients with less fat. Liposuction Surgery Turkey

Tumescent liposuction

The tumescent procedure, also known as TLA or tumescent local anesthesia, has become established worldwide. It is the most commonly used method in the field of liposuction. The so-called tumescence solution is used in TLA. This consists of isotonic saline solution, adrenaline and a local anesthetic. The mixture loosens the connective and fatty tissue and thus enables a gentle and almost painless procedure.

Furthermore, the treated body zones swell up due to the pressure generated and the vessels also narrow. After a short exposure time of about 30 minutes, the fat cells saturated with the liquid can be loosened from the connective tissue and then sucked out with a cannula. The previously injected adrenaline ensures that the blood vessels contract and blood loss during the operation is kept to a minimum.

Some people are good candidates for liposuction, and others should avoid it.

  • have good skin elasticity
  • have good muscle tone
  • have fat deposits that won’t go away with diet or exercise
  • are in good physical shape and overall health

Liposuction Questions

Liposuction removes fat from the stomach, but it doesn’t automatically tighten skin; skin tightening depends on your skin’s elasticity. To prevent loose skin, maintain a stable weight, hydrate, eat healthily, and exercise regularly. You might see your stomach start to flatten within a few weeks after liposuction, but final results can take up to six months. However, gaining significant weight post-liposuction can lead to fat accumulation again, even in treated areas. It’s important to have realistic expectations and follow a healthy lifestyle to maintain results. A consultation with a plastic surgeon can provide more personalized advice.

Basically, liposuction is a routine procedure in aesthetic surgery, which is not dangerous unless it is contraindicated. Of course, as with any other operation, there are certain risks associated with the procedure. However, these rarely occur and can be largely avoided by choosing a well-trained surgeon. Liposuction is therefore not dangerous.
